If you were not in class today…
These are the steps to create your speech outline from your essay:
These are the steps we are doing in class:
1. Read the essay outloud and ensure you have 3 minutes.
2. Read the essay outloud again to see where you stop after 4 minutes.
3. Read the essay outloud again to see where you stop after 5 minutes.
4. Evaluate the text now for persuasive tone – what sounds the most persuasive. It is better to have a 3 or 4 minute very persuasive speech, rather than a 5 minute so-so persuasive speech. You may elect to only say one of your counter-arguments/refutation or only 2 of your main arguments. You can add or take out sentences or sections of your text as long as you still have a clear intro, body and conclusion.
5. Time yourself again and see that you still have at least 3 minutes.
6. Open up your essay document, make the changes, rename it speech outline, print a copy and use that to practice.
